Why Ethiopia
There is an urgent need for clean water and proper sanitation in Ethiopia,
one of the world's poorest and least developed nations.

This landlocked African nation has been experiencing devastating cyclical droughts for decades. More than 83 million people call Ethiopia home, yet almost 60 percent of these people do not have access to safe water. In rural areas that number rises to nearly 70 percent. They have no choice but to use unclean water from rivers and ponds for drinking, cooking and bathing. When children drink dirty water, they become sick and many die. Lack of clean water, sanitation and hygiene, is directly related to Ethiopia's high rate of child mortality. The country also has Africa's highest rate of trachoma – a blinding eye infection that can be easily prevented by washing the face and eyes with clean water.

Access to sanitation in Ethiopia is very limited - only 11 percent of households have basic facilities such as latrines. Contamination of water sources from human waste is frequent, and contributes to children's sickness and suffering.

Clean water helps alleviate sickness, conflict, poverty, and hunger. ADD WATER. CHANGE EVERYTHING.
